Veteran and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks: Franken’s Comments are “Appalling”
WEST DES MOINES —The Grassley Works campaign released the following statement on behalf of proud veteran and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks. Her statement follows Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Mike Franken’s attacks on the First Amendment.
“As a 24-year veteran of the Army and Army Reserves who also understands what it means to represent Iowans, I find Mike Franken’s comments nothing short of appalling,” Miller-Meeks said. “When I enlisted in the Army at the age of 18, I was proud to protect and serve all Americans and their right to free speech. Sadly, Mike Franken has made it clear that he will choose a different and divisive path should he ever be elected to public office. His is a path of tuning out opposing views, just as he admitted to doing in uniform when he said he routinely turned off Fox News that others were watching because it didn’t align with his own political beliefs. Iowans don’t want, need or deserve an elitist, my-way-or-the-highway liberal who reminds us of Hillary Clinton whining about Trump supporters being a ‘basket of deplorables.’ Mike Franken has already proven that he will ignore people with whom he disagrees.
“Iowans have a decision in November; they can choose someone who refuses to enter a community anytime someone holds an opinion different from his or we can re-elect a senator who visits all 99 counties every year, who isn’t afraid of different viewpoints, and who listens to and represents all Iowans. I’ll be supporting Chuck Grassley this November and I encourage all Iowans to do the same.”
Miller-Meeks served 24 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and retired as a Lt. Col.
