Home is Where the Heart Is? Franken Advertises in DC
UNPRECEDENTED: No Iowa Senate Candidate in Memory Has Advertised on Washington, D.C. Airwaves
WEST DES MOINES — This morning, Punchbowl News reported Mike Franken, the Democrat candidate allegedly running to represent Iowa in the U.S. Senate, will air television advertisements in Washington, D.C., a seemingly unprecedented play for elite attention by an Iowa candidate.
“Did Mike Franken forget where he was running for Senate? We aren’t talking about Washington, Iowa, here. After struggling to gain traction with Iowa voters, Mike Franken is taking his message where it resonates most: the Washington, D.C. swamp,” Grassley Works Communications Director Michaela Sundermann said. “Iowans don’t appreciate his insults and see through his desperate attempt to persuade his liberal Beltway base to bankroll his failing campaign by using dishonest attacks in a race ranked as solid Republican. This ad tells Iowans everything they need to know: Mike Franken cares more about coastal elites than Iowa voters. Mike Franken needs to explain to Iowans directly why he is choosing Washington over Iowa.”
BACKGROUND:
Washington, D.C., residents are overwhelmingly Democrats with over 76 percent of the voter registration. Additionally, Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area have five of the richest counties in the United States.
Punchbowl News reported, “Democrat Michael Franken, running against Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), is airing a new ad in Washington asking people to donate to his campaign. It is, of course, unique to run an ad in D.C. for a race in Iowa, but we guess he knows where the money is.”
