Franken Says Senators Can’t Help Bring Down Inflation
WEST DES MOINES — Today, the Grassley Works campaign announced a new television advertisement highlighting Mike Franken’s view that senators and the president have no role in fighting record-high inflation.
Mike Franken’s response to Iowans seeing a nearly $700 a month increase in the cost of living expenses: “Iowa, our president, our senators have no role in that whatsoever.” Franken made this comment in Denison in May, which was the second month of record-high inflation resulting from President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats’ massive spending increases and restrictions on energy production.
Iowans are paying the price for Democrats’ tax-and-spending sprees. Inflation continues to crush household budgets, and a recession has set in. Biden and Congressional Democrats have continued to push reckless spending that’s emptying the pocketbooks of Iowans struggling to make ends meet, and Democrats doubled the budget for the IRS to collect more taxes from hardworking Iowans.
“Utility, grocery, gas and rent bills are all higher because of the Biden-Franken agenda. Democrats own these inflationary policies, and yet Mike Franken said in May the president and lawmakers have ‘no role’ to combat the soaring cost of living. Via Twitter, Franken now claims he has a plan. Is Mike Franken admitting he was wrong? Is he flip-flopping on his previous position? In that same Twitter thread, he also changed his position on permanent, year-round E15. How are Iowans supposed to know what Mike Franken actually believes when he constantly gives us whiplash? Luckily, Iowans already have a Senator they trust with a proven track record of fighting inflation and working to keep more money in Iowans’ pocketbooks. The Senator we need is the Senator we’ve got,” Grassley Works Communications Director Michaela Sundermann said.
The 30-second spot will air across the state.
BACKGROUND
Chuck Grassley works as THE Inflation Fighter. He has introduced legislation to ease the burden of the Biden economy on Iowa, including the Family and Community Inflation Relief Act, which would index tax credits to inflation to help families with the rising cost of living. Grassley also introduced the Middle-Class Savings and Investment Act, which would make it pay to save by expanding the size of the lowest tax bracket (zero) for most middle-class savings and investment income. Grassley has consistently opposed Biden’s inflationary spending program.
During the Democrat U.S. Senate primary debate, Mike Franken said, “I believe increasing year-long E15 will help in the short term, but it should not be something that is necessarily permanent.”
