On National Farmer’s Day, Grassley Announces Farmers for Grassley Coalition

WEST DES MOINES — Today, on National Farmer’s Day, Senator Chuck Grassley announced his Farmers for Grassley Coalition chairs in all of Iowa’s 99 counties. As one of only two crop farmers in the U.S. Senate, Senator Grassley is an outspoken leader for American Agriculture. 

“Congress will rewrite the Farm Bill next year and we need a farmer to represent our interests in the U.S. Senate. Chuck always has our backs. He understands agriculture and our way of life because he has the same dirt underneath his fingernails as we do. Chuck is the strong voice we need to strengthen and sustain the family farm for generations to come. Iowa agriculture needs Chuck fighting for us more than ever,” Larry Madson, Shelby County farm chair said. 

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and former President of the Iowa Farm Bureau Craig Hill announced the leadership of the Farmers for Grassley Coalition on a call with members of the Iowa press in September. Last week, Chairman of the Farmers for Grassley coalition, Bill Horan, wrote an op-ed articulating Grassley’s fierce advocacy on behalf of Iowa agriculture. Grassley has also been endorsed by the Iowa Farm Bureau, the Iowa Corn Growers Association and leaders from every major agriculture group in the state. The National Corn Growers Association also awarded Grassley its President’s Award earlier this year.

The Farmers for Grassley Coalition is the third statewide coalition Grassley has announced. Grassley has also received support from veterans in all of Iowa’s 99 counties and announced campaign leadership in all of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Grassley serves on the Senate Agriculture Committee, and he runs his family farm with his son Robin and grandson Pat in Butler County. In the U.S. Senate, he’s starting work on the new Farm Bill, leading bipartisan legislation to bring transparency to the cattle market, championing biofuels, protecting farmers and small businesses from a super-sized IRS, and standing up against heavy-handed federal regulations, such as the Waters of the United States Rule.
