As Biden Warns of “nuclear Armageddon,” Franken Proposes Sending Unarmed Troops to Ukraine

WEST DES MOINES — The same day that Joe Biden was warning of an increased risk of “nuclear Armageddon” posed by Russia, Mike Franken stated his support for sending unarmed American soldiers into a nuclear-struck Ukraine. On the campaign trail, Franken has made repeated calls to send Americans onto a nuclear battlefield, and to make it worse, Franken said during the Senate debate he doesn’t want them to carry arms to defend themselves.

If this wasn’t extreme enough, Franken also said he would use American lives as pawns to deter Russia from using more nuclear weapons.

“The way we would work that is we would send in recovery forces … and we would leave folks there. It would be Americans … It would be a nationwide, worldwide effort. Once we got them in the country people would stay to stop another weapon,” Franken said at a campaign stop in Des Moines earlier this year.

“Regarding putting American troops in a combat zone, no one knows more about this than perhaps me,” Franken bragged during the debate with Senator Chuck Grassley just moments after admitting he was wrong in predicting Russia wouldn’t invade Ukraine. What’s more, when asked about deploying American soldiers to Ukraine if Russia uses nuclear weapons there, Franken made a shocking suggestion.

“While some will be soldiers, but it doesn’t mean they have to be armed,” Franken said.

The stunning comment prompted an immediate rebuttal from Senator Grassley:

“I think it’d be very dangerous to send people, soldiers, in without weapons so that they can protect themselves,” Grassley said.

Franken doubled down on his support for putting unarmed American soldiers in a combat zone: “If you want to be a leadership nation, then you have to take those risks.”

Grassley said he supports providing non-personnel military resources to Ukraine to prevent Russia from expanding its unprovoked invasion and threatening NATO-member allies, which would obligate the United States to respond.
