Actor Ben Stein calls out Iowa Democratic Senate candidate Patty Judge in a new ad that recalls his famous scene in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
Stein, an outspoken Republican who worked in the Reagan administration, appears in the ad supporting Iowa GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley’s reelection. In the spot, Stein repeatedly calls out “Judge? Judge? Judge?” while graphics on screen outline how Judge missed meetings of the state fair board and economic development commission when she was lieutenant governor and skipped debates during the Democratic primary. The ad is clear homage to a scene where Stein plays a teacher in Ferris Bueller and repeatedly calls out the main character’s last name while taking attendance. Bueller, of course, has skipped school.
At the end of the 30-second ad, Stein asks “Grassley?” And a voice calls out: “Here!” “He’s always here,” Stein says. A graphic reminds voters of Grassley’s near-perfect attendance at Senate votes.
