Cori Bush and Mike Franken Lock Arms on Radical Defund the Police Rhetoric
WEST DES MOINES — As “Defund the Police” champion Cori Bush is set to campaign alongside Iowa Democrats this weekend, her ally Mike Franken has been pushing the same radical, anti-police rhetoric that she’s peddling.
During a recent Good Morning America interview, Cori Bush doubled down on her push to Defund the Police – even as a violent crime wave is sweeping the nation. She even offered suggestions for different ways of saying Defund the Police: “Say ‘reallocate,’ say ‘divest,’ say ‘move.’ But it’s still the same thing,” Bush explained.
Just like Cori Bush, Mike Franken is telling Democrats to mislead voters about their party’s Defund the Police agenda. “Do not say we’re going to defund the police,” Franken said. “There are better ways to say that we’re going to do a reapportionment and a different look at policing in America.”
Reallocate. Reapportionment. Whatever you want to call it, “it’s all the same thing” according to Defund the Police advocate Cori Bush.
It’s not surprising to hear Franken echoing Bush’s out-of-touch ideology. Last month, Franken campaigned with another anti-police activist, who is running on a platform of “reimagining public safety” and even wants to disarm police officers. Franken has a history of misleading Iowans and desperately trying to hide where he truly stands, including when it comes to defunding the police – once making the blatantly false claim that “there’s no Democrat that mentions defunding the police.”
Meanwhile, Senator Chuck Grassley works to protect our brave men and women in blue. As Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he regularly shepherds bills through the committee supporting law enforcement. Just this year, he passed bills to invest in local police departments and help officers better respond to situations involving mental health crises.
“Mike Franken would vote arm-in-arm with Cori Bush’s Defund the Police agenda. As crime rates soar under Joe Biden’s watch, Iowans want a leader who supports the police officers who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. That’s Senator Grassley. He will always back the blue and has the track record to prove it,” Grassley Works Communications Director Michaela Sundermann said.
