ICYMI: Grassley Wins Iowa Youth Straw Poll by Huge Margin
WEST DES MOINES — Senator Chuck Grassley received widespread support from Iowa students in the Iowa Secretary of State’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll. According to the preliminary results, Grassley received nearly 62 percent of the vote compared to Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Mike Franken’s 38 percent of the vote.
More than 13,000 K-12 students from across the state participated.
The Iowa Youth Straw Poll serves as a good predictor of the winner’s support on Election Day.
- In 2016, the Iowa Youth Straw Poll had Senator Chuck Grassley receiving 62 percent of the vote. He went on to win 60 percent of the vote on Election Day.
- In 2018, the Iowa Youth Straw poll had Governor Kim Reynolds receiving nearly 47 percent of the vote. She went on to win 50 percent of the vote on Election Day.
- In 2020, the Iowa Youth Straw poll had President Donald Trump receiving nearly 53 percent of the vote. He went on to win Iowa with 53 percent of the vote on Election Day.
- In 2020, the Iowa Youth Straw poll had Senator Joni Ernst receiving nearly 52 percent of the vote. She went on to win with nearly 52 percent of the vote on Election Day.
