Open Dialogue with Iowans is the “Essence of Representative Government”

URBANDALE — This morning, Senator Chuck Grassley was the featured speaker at the Westside Conservative Club gathering.

“The principle of representative government is the most important principle you can have. That’s why I go to the 99 counties every year. I’ve got a responsibility of making myself available to different groups of people around the state and to know what’s on their minds,” Grassley said during his remarks. “That two-way communication is the very essence of representative government. You can’t go to Washington and represent the people of Iowa if you don’t know what’s on people’s minds.”

In August, Grassley completed his 42nd annual 99 county meetings across Iowa. Throughout the year, three issues came up repeatedly in his Q&A’s with Iowans in every corner of the state: 40-year high inflation, rising gas prices, and the open border policies under President Joe Biden.

Grassley also made campaign stops in Fort Dodge and Bettendorf this week.
