RELEASE: Grassley Committee Releases 3rd Quarter Fundraising Report

Senator Grassley has long-supported mandatory electronic campaign finance filing and will today demonstrate his commitment to transparency and accountability in government by voluntarily filing an electronic, searchable online report with the Federal Election Commission in addition to the paper report that is currently required.
“Senator Grassley is once again demonstrating his long-standing commitment to transparency and his belief that the public’s business ought to be public,” said Grassley Committee campaign manager Bob Haus. “Before Iowans cast their vote for United States Senate, they deserve to know which candidates have nothing to hide, and that is why we are calling on Patty Judge to prove her level of commitment to transparency by following Senator Grassley’s lead and filing electronically with the Federal Election Commission.”
Currently, candidates for the United States House of Representatives and candidates for President of the United States are required by law to file electronically with the Federal Election Commission, but candidates for United States Senate do not have the same requirement. This Congress, Senator Grassley signed on as an original co-sponsor of the Senate Campaign Disclosure Parity Act (S.366) on February 2, 2015. Senator Grassley has supported and co-sponsored similar legislation in previous Congresses.
Filing electronically with the Federal Election Commission allows the report to be immediately searchable online as opposed to requiring manual searches of paper reports, which can prove to be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Senator Grassley believes that this is an important step in providing Iowans with a maximum level of transparency ahead of an important election.
Senator Grassley has made transparency, fairness and the equal application of law a hallmark of his service in the United States Senate. Senator Grassley led the effort to ensure that the Affordable Care Act also applied to Congress, introduced bipartisan legislation to allow cameras in federal courtrooms, led the FOIA Improvement Act through the Judiciary Committee, which was signed into law this year by President Obama, and authored the Congressional Accountability Act, which is now law and requires Congress to adhere to a dozen health, safety and labor laws from which it had previously been exempted.
