Sen. Ernst Highlights Franken’s Misogynistic Mindset

WEST DES MOINES — Sen. Joni Ernst joined the Guy Benson Radio Show yesterday to discuss the state of the U.S. Senate race in Iowa. Ernst highlighted the strength of Iowa’s senior senator, Chuck Grassley, who holds a meeting in each of Iowa’s 99 counties, for 42 years in a row and counting. In stark contrast to Senator Grassley’s leadership, his opponent Mike Franken has a consistent record of disrespecting Iowans, particularly women.

“His campaign manager [filed a police report of assault]. This is not some Republican operative, this is HIS former campaign manager that filed a police report…He’s made comments about me as well. That, you know, when he defeats Chuck Grassley and when he goes to the United States Senate, he is not going to be the junior senator, ‘Joni Ernst is going to follow me.’ What a chauvinistic attitude. I can’t believe that women across Iowa would support somebody with that attitude that makes women out to be less than who they are,” Ernst said.

Some of Franken’s insulting remarks toward Senator Joni Ernst include:

  • VIDEO: “The time to be — not the junior senator from the state of Iowa — but to be the leading senator of the state of Iowa to help Joni Ernst to a different, more altruistic future for the state of Iowa. If she’s not willing to do that, but the Republicans have to have that chair, then they will see my big wrath.” (May 2022)
  • ARTICLE: “‘We need legislators who take responsibility and leadership,” Franken said. “I have no intention of being the junior senator from Iowa, and my intention is to be the leader in the Senate for Iowa.’ He said Sen. Joni Ernst, an Iowa National Guard lieutenant colonel, would agree with him and follow his lead.” (April 2022)
  • VIDEO: “I expect to be hugely value-added, and I would expect guys like Ben Sasse, and John Thune, and I would expect Joni Ernst. Joni Ernst would like very much to have some assistance in a leadership role, and I think she is shunned by her fellow Senator, I will say. And I think she would like very much to have someone who can work with her.” (August 2022)
  • VIDEO: “Don’t be, pardon me, a Joni Ernst in all the sciences. It really serves no purpose. Be the person who patches, consolidates, cajoles, designs, makes possible, the effort and step aside for someone else and let it go.” (May 2022)
  • VIDEO: “I don’t have any intention of being the junior senator from the state of Iowa. I believe I have more experience in Washington, D.C. than [Ernst] does, and I expect to be the leading Senator of the state of Iowa.” (June 2022)
