Senators praised Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Tuesday for casting his 12,000th vote, while also joking about his affinity for sweater vests and notorious Twitter personality.

“I think of Senator Grassley’s 12,000 votes, hundreds of hearings, countless numbers of tweets. Probably four-dozen sweater vests later, he’s still the same down-to-earth Iowa farmer who visits every one of the state’s 99 counties every year,” Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said from the Senate floor. Leahy — who cast his 15,000th vote last week — is the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee that is chaired by Grassley.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) added that with Grassley’s travel schedule, “it’s no wonder he began his assent into Twitter legendom with four simple words: Attending events in Iowa.”

He noted that Grassley caps off his county tour with a trip to Dairy Queen, where he orders an ice cream Blizzard that includes a Snickers bar.
